A Weekend of Celebration, Reflection, and Community

The Brownwood Juneteenth Community Celebration is a powerful and joyful tribute to freedom and unity. Taking place the weekend of June 19th, the celebration invites the entire community to take part in a series of free, family-friendly events.

This annual tradition features festive music, local performances, delicious food, and an uplifting spirit of togetherness. Signature events include the We Are One White Linen Party, the Unity Color Run, and Family Fun in the Park, where guests of all ages can enjoy games, entertainment, and a free carnival at Cecil Holman Park.

Why We Celebrate

Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth), also known as Freedom Day, is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day — June 19, 1865 — when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free, more than two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

    Juneteenth Soul Food Luncheon

    A ticketed luncheon event that invites the community to celebrate Juneteenth with soul food, community speakers, and the history of Juneteenth.

    We Are One White Linen Party

    A free event to dress up in your favorite all-white summer attire and come ready to party, eat great food from local vendors, and enjoy lawn games and dance to a live DJ through the night of Juneteenth.

    Family Fun in the Park

    A free outdoor event featuring food vendors, carnival rides, water slides, live music, and fun for the whole family!
