Birding 101 Hike at Lake Brownwood State Park

Participants are invited to join a guided Birding 101 hike to learn how to identify local feathered friends in the scenic surroundings of Lake Brownwood State Park. The group will embark on a guided walk to spot birds, with instruction on recognizing their calls, shapes, colors, and other key features. Attendees will also get hands-on practice using the free Merlin bird identification app, and binoculars will be available to borrow for the outing.

Led by knowledgeable park staff or volunteers at Lake Brownwood State Park, this beginner-friendly program meets at the Texas Oak Trailhead for an engaging outdoor experience amid the park’s trails, oaks, and lake views. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, learn new skills, and connect with fellow nature lovers in a relaxed, educational setting.

This event is free to attend, though standard park entrance fees apply: $5 per adult (13 years and older) daily; children 12 and under enter free. Meet at the Texas Oak Trailhead at 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Bring sturdy walking shoes, water, and binoculars if you have them (extras available to borrow). The program is weather-dependent, check with the park for any updates or cancellations.
