Let Us Entertain You
Austin may be known as the live music capital of the world but Brownwood isn’t far behind! Week after week, a handful of Brownwood’s businesses host local Texas musicians, making our downtown robust with live entertainment. And music isn’t all we have to offer! Our event calendar is always booked with theater performances, pop-up events, and town-sponsored festivals. No matter when you choose to visit Brownwood, there will definitely be something engaging to do!
Got Music?
If you’re new to town and don’t know what to do tonight, chances are there’s live entertainment at Stone’s Grove Cocktail Bar. Every weekend, the owners bring in new talent to entertain the bar’s guests. In fact, they’ve already booked musicians for all but one Saturday for the next two months. And mark your calendars for September 24 when Gary P. Nunn and Justin McFarland will headline at Teddy’s Brewhaus. Other hubs for live music around town are Pioneer Tap House, Primal Brewing Company, 10 Mile Productions, and Wild Duck Marina.
Also quickly growing in popularity are the new karaoke nights every Friday at Stone’s Grove and occasionally at 10 Mile. So if you’re ready to take your singing career out of the shower, grab a drink, grab your friends, and hit the stage! We assure you there is no judgment here in Brownwood. Going the extra mile, Stone’s Grove even throws in an occasional comedy show here and there, like a night of Cocktails & Comedy coming August 18. Stone’s Grove and other bars downtown are definitely tethered to Brownwood’s entertainment.
Brownwood or Broadway?
Skip the expensive plane ticket to New York City, because Broadway-worthy shows are performed here at Brownwood’s historic Lyric Theater. By the end of 2022, the Lyric will have hosted nine different productions including Footloose, Fame Jr., and the Three Musketeers. Their most recent production, Sister Act, packed the audience for all eight showings and introduced a new rising star to the theater, Domonique Stephens. Two more chances remain to catch a show at the Lyric this year – Noises Off, running September 9 through 18 and I’ll Be Home for Christmas, running December 2 through 11.
If you’re more musically inclined, the auditorium also hosts a number of concerts ranging from classical to country music. The latest event, Piano & Paint, was a creative combination of a concert pianist and a painting artist whose portraits will be auctioned off to support various charities in Brownwood.
Unique Markets
Brownwood firmly believes in supporting small businesses in Texas which is why we strive to provide retail opportunities that aren’t always available to growing entrepreneurs. This summer, Shaw’s Marketplace hosted the Artisan Market every Saturday. This was a place where creative, passionate minds could share their hand-crafted metal art, woodworking, jewelry, baked goods, vegetable plants, crocheted items, skin care products, and more. The Artisan Market is a wonderfully supportive community that will luckily return this fall, when we can all bear to be outside again!
Another creative way to involve our more established businesses this year has been 2nd Sundays! Participating storefronts open on the 2nd Sunday of each month, despite typical operating hours, presenting something fun and different to downtown patrons. Special offerings have included brunch at 10 Mile Productions and Lucille + Mabel, giveaways at Hamilton’s, discounts at both axe throwing businesses, a DND tournament at Primal Brewing Company, trunk shows and sales at various boutiques, and more! If you’re hoping to visit Brownwood soon, consider planning your trip to include one of these festive weekends to make the most of your shopping experience.
Party With Us
Every small Texas town has its signature event, like the Bluebonnet Festival in Burnet and Sip ‘N Stroll in San Saba, but we couldn’t settle for just one in Brownwood, so we have three! If you ask any of the thousands of guests who come to our annual festivals, you’ll see Brownwood really knows how to throw a party, or shall we say fiesta! Cinco De Mayo kicks us off for the year in May with dozens of food trucks, shopping vendors, and live music. This event is heaven incarnate for taco lovers and those interested in Latino culture, so add it to your schedule for 2023. Though, you still have two more chances to catch one of our famed town festivals this year – Corks and Caps and Sipping Under the Stars.
Coming up first on October 2 is Corks and Caps, an event featuring beer and wine tastings from across Texas. Each participating vineyard will have bottles of their signature wine on sale, in addition to a cigar lounge hosted by CJ’s, live music, and more food/dessert vendors. Following Corks and Caps is the final and merriest festival of the year – Sipping Under the Stars, where each downtown business hosts a different winery. Sip wine tastings while shopping Brownwood’s unique boutiques and finish with a stroll past our unique Christmas light display.
It’s All Happening Here in Brownwood
As if there’s time for anything more with so much already going on in Brownwood, arbitrary events pop up like the Adams Street Block Party on August 27, Heart of Texas Quilt Show on September 9, Afternoon Tea on September 11, and Color Run 5k on September 24. Needless to say, Brownwood is thriving with live entertainment! Bookmark our event calendar to keep up with unique activities you may want to attend!
