Splash Around

Lake Brownwood State Park is the perfect place to start your weekend. With so much to do, you might just end up extending your stay! For those who can’t wait to get on the water, boat and jet ski rentals are available around Lake Brownwood. With so much versatility in a boat, bring your swimsuits, towable tubes, wakeboards, and water skis to take your day on the lake to the next level! Lake Brownwood is also a very popular place for fishing in Texas, known for a wide range of fish to be caught here including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white crappie, white bass, and perch. 

Not a lake person but still love to swim? Head over to the Camp Bowie Aquatic Center! Featuring a 7,000 square foot recreational pool, large slide, lazy river, toddler pool, and several fun obstacles for kids of all ages, the aquatic center is definitely one of Brownwood’s most popular sunny attractions. 

 

Pecan Bayou

Too much going on at Lake Brownwood? Slow it down on the Pecan Bayou. Rent or bring your own kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to float down the river! Fabis Primitive Park, just outside Brownwood, hosts a launching spot into the Pecan Bayou. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, this paddling trail encompasses up to 7.2 miles, which includes a 3.2-mile loop upriver and a 4-mile loop downriver to the dam and back. Spend 1-3 hours floating around the pecan tree-lined streams and then head into town for a bite to eat! Here you can also fish in shallow waters and do some bird watching. 

Work Up a Sweat

If you want to get your heart pumping, we have several state-of-the-art sports facilities. Hit a homerun at one of 12 baseball fields at the Bert V. Massey II Sports Complex. With baseball, softball, and adult fields, this facility caters to all. If you’d rather score a goal at the Camp Bowie Soccer Complex, we have 22 fields, covered in natural grass, and available to play with friends and family. 

Brownwood is a golfer’s paradise with three distinct 18-hole golf courses spread out around town. Take a swing at the Brownwood Country Club, Hideout Golf Club and Resort, or The Creek Golf Course and Driving Range. We even have a full 18-hole disc golf course for extra fun! 

Nature Parks

Did you know that Brownwood is home to 19 public parks spread out over 37 acres? This includes 105 picnic sites, 15 restroom facilities, 11 playgrounds, 8 basketball courts, and much more. As hillsides and fields burst with color, now is the perfect time to spend some time in nature! Wake up early for a morning hike or bike ride through one of several trails in Brownwood. Or find an open space for some yoga, running, and other exercises of choice. Pack a picnic and a frisbee for a calm afternoon in the park, or take a reflective moment to watch the clouds, the birds, and other wonders in nature.
