Brownwood bound: summer travels deep in the heart of Texas

Raise your hand if you’re daydreaming of summer vacation? Us too. It’s been a long, strange first half the year. With European escape plans nixed, we’re trying to figure out how to ditch our four walls and still maintain our safety. Luckily, we’re Texans – and the Texas road takes a while to wear out. In fact, it can take up to 13 hours (!!!) to cross the state!! Along the way, you can enjoy sleepy piney woods, lakes, sandy shores along the Gulf Coast, rugged mountains, and the verdant Texas Hill Country. And Brownwood is right at the heart of it all!

The fact is that we’re all trying to be careful while supporting communities across Texas and staying sane. Social distancing is easier when you can bring the family, a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom along! And that is exactly what we’re seeing in town – Texans who are trading in the walls of their homes for mobilized adventures in recreational vehicles!

If you’re joining the record numbers of Americans taking your summer travels on the road this year, here are a few of the great things you can expect from a Brownwood stopover

Your outdoor home away from home

Brownwood offers great RV lodging facilities. Actually, with five great options – you might have a hard time choosing just one!

Riverside RV Park offers extra-long, pull-through asphalt pads, full hookups, satellite TV with ESPN Package, and Wi-Fi. The beautiful duck-filled grounds on the shores of Pecan Bayou boast disc golf, walking trails and a paddling trail for kayakers. The park also offers a laundry room and shower and deck overlooking the water. Located in town, you’re within walking distance of a large grocery store and several restaurants to get supplies and take-out!

Lake Brownwood State Park offers 537 acres of rustic beauty and tranquility with miles of shoreline along Lake Brownwood. You’ll find tent sites and cabins along with 20 RV sites with full hookups and screened shelters. The park offers swimming, boating, fishing and nature trails for walking!

Flat Rock RV Park offers lakeside RV spots, boat slips, covered picnic areas with grill, swimming, fishing pier and jetty, kayaking, and volleyball courts.

Shady Oaks RV Park, located in town, has 30 and 50 amp service, a laundry room, free wi-fi, and restroom with shower.

Harlowe’s RV Park offers full hook-ups, DishTV, wireless internet and they are across the street from a laundromat!

Adventure awaits!

There is plenty of low-risk fun in Brownwood to entertain the whole family! We’ve shared a few social-distance friendly activities in previous blogs and they are all still available!

Take the boat out on Lake Brownwood, go kayaking on the Pecan Bayou trail, play a round of golf, go for a stroll – outdoor opportunities abound.

Our pool complex – the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center – is also a great way to cool off in the hot summer afternoons. Officially opened in June, the facility is taking extra precautions to keep the community safe and cool this summer. In addition to increased disinfecting, operating capacity is capped at 50 percent capacity and employees are screened before each shift.  We recommend checking back before your visit to stay current on safety protocols and expectations.

When you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Spirit of Texas’ patio for socially-distanced wine and snacks. Or pick up to-go orders from our great restaurants.

Safety first

We are so excited to meet you and show you the best of Brownwood. As we urge our community to take the proper precautions to keep each other safe and healthy, we ask that all travelers do so as well. Please maintain six feet of distance at all times, wash hands frequently, avoid direct contact with others, and wear a face-covering in accordance with Governor Abbot’s executive order on July 2.

We can’t wait to host you with open arms – even if it’s six feet away! See you on the road, y’all!
