Lighted Parade in Historic Downtown
The holidays in Brownwood really kick off when the sun goes down and the parade lights switch on.
The Christmas Under the Stars Christmas Parade rolls through Historic Downtown Brownwood on the first Thursday in December, with the 2025 parade stepping off at 6:15 p.m. on December 4.
With over 100 floats lining the streets along Center, Fisk, and Baker as floats, marching bands, classic cars, local businesses, and community groups roll by in a river of lights. Kids race to point out their favorite characters, neighbors call out to one another from sidewalks, and for one night, downtown becomes a glowing front porch for the whole community.
Pro tip: arrive early to stake out your favorite viewing spot and grab a bite or a warm drink from one of our downtown restaurants
Christmas Under the Stars: A Weekend of Small-Town Magic
After the parade, the celebration doesn’t stop—it spreads out across the Depot Civic and Cultural Center and the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center for Christmas Under the Stars, Brownwood’s signature holiday festival.
Across the festival weekend, you’ll find:
-
Kid-friendly activities like crafts, games, bounce houses, and big-wheel or Hot Wheels races
-
Sweet treats—think funnel cakes, cocoa, and all the cozy festival favorites
-
Live music and holiday performances
-
Photos with Santa, who has been known to make Brownwood his home base for the weekend.
It’s the kind of event where you can spend the whole day drifting between the museum, Depot Plaza, and downtown—letting the kids burn off energy, catching up with friends, and watching the lights come on as evening settles over the trains and historic brick buildings.
Sipping Under the Stars: Holiday Cheers in Downtown Brownwood
When the kids are tucked in or happily occupied with grandparents, it’s time for the adults to take their turn.
On December 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Downtown Brownwood hosts Sipping Under the Stars, an evening wine and beer tasting that turns the heart of downtown into a relaxed, walkable tasting room.
Check in at the Brownwood Art Association, pick up your tasting tickets and commemorative glass, and then stroll from boutique to boutique as regional wineries, breweries, and local bars offer curated samples.
Past years have featured:
-
Hill Country wineries pouring reds, whites, and sparkling favorites
-
Local and Texas craft beer
-
Live music at Pat Coursey Park, and live music tucked into local businesses.
-
Downtown shops staying open late with specials and holiday sales
If you’ve read our earlier Texas Wine & Beer Event: Sipping Under the Stars feature, you know this event isn’t just about what’s in your glass—it’s about slow wandering, bumping into friends you haven’t seen in a while, and finding gifts in locally owned shops that already look like Christmas postcards.
Yuletide Express: A Vintage Christmas Journey
If you want a holiday experience that feels straight out of a storybook, make room on your calendar for the Yuletide Express: A Vintage Christmas Journey at the Lehnis Railroad Museum & Visitor Center.
On Saturday, December 13, from 5:00–8:00 p.m., the museum grounds transform into a festive rail-side wonderland.
Picture this:
-
A whimsical mini train ride circling the lights
-
The warmth of rich hot chocolate between your hands
-
A visit with Santa and a keepsake photo to take home
The evening is designed for all ages, with cheerful face painting, Balloon animals that delight every kid in line, and hands-on Christmas crafts you can bring back to the tree at home
Admission is just $7 for ages 5 and up, making it an easy, affordable way for families, grandparents, and visiting friends to share a holiday outing together. It’s the kind of event that becomes “our thing” year after year—a simple December night that turns into one of your favorite memories.
Christmas at the Lyric: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
If your idea of Christmas includes a good laugh and a story with heart, save a night for the Brownwood Lyric Theatre. This year’s holiday production is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, running December 5–14, 2025, in historic downtown Brownwood.
The show follows the infamous Herdman kids—“the worst kids in the history of the world”—as they crash Sunday school, take over the town’s Christmas pageant, and send rehearsals straight off the rails. What starts as a guaranteed disaster slowly turns into a surprisingly honest, funny, and moving retelling of the Christmas story, with a few hard-earned lessons in kindness and grace along the way.
It’s the kind of production that feels tailor-made for Brownwood: family-friendly, full of local talent, and rooted in the idea that people (and small towns) are often more than they seem at first glance. Tickets start at $18 for adults and $13 for students, and weekend performances make it easy to build an entire holiday outing around the show—dinner downtown, the Lyric at curtain time, then a stroll under the lights afterward.
Whether you’re a regular at the Lyric or stepping inside for the first time, a Christmas show here is one of those Brownwood traditions that keeps people coming back—and brings visitors into the story, too.
