Earth & Noble
Earth & Noble is the latest addition to the boutique shopping scene in Brownwood. Opening in 2020, Earth and Noble, owned by local Ashley Jaynes, was started out of a desire to find an outlet for her creativity. Ashley was a "maker" ever since she can remember. “When I was little I would get in trouble for doing things like cutting up the family photos and gluing them to random things. I loved making friendship bracelets and was obsessed with art kits for Christmas.” Today, after leaving her job to pursue her passion, Earth and Noble is a testament to Ashley’s style and vision, with great accessories, trendy clothing, and a store with a great aesthetic. You can find her at 108A East Baker Street.

When you describe your business as a western-style boutique with a gypsy flare! Where Dolly Parton meets Stevie Nicks, you know you are in for a good time. What started as a small booth in Santa Anna has turned into one of the most popular boutiques in Brownwood. The Hen House is a fun place to visit, even if you are just passing by. The owners are a lot of fun and are very proud of the building and the overall shop. In just a few years, The Hen House has become a favorite for trendy Texas styles. You can visit them at 207 Fisk Street.
Intermission Bookshop
We switch gears a little bit here to highlight Intermission Bookshop. In an era where everything is bought and sold online, Intermission seeks to create a space for people who love books and the opportunity to engage with other book lovers. Not to mention, experience a piece of Brownwood history in the process. Owners Kim and Brent saw that the building was available and had a vision of the buildings as a bookstore. The restoration of the old building was done in a way to leave the imperfections and show the history, including shadows lining the walls that hint at the building’s past as a theatre. New and used books are sold, but more importantly, Intermission exists to provoke meaningful conversation. Visit Intermission at 203 Center Avenue.
