Howard Payne University’s Symphonic Band and the Central Texas Community Band will present “A Star in the Sky” Christmas Celebration Concert on  November 30th, at 7:30 p.m. in HPU’s Mims Auditorium. There is no charge for admission. The musical selections are sure to get the Christmas spirit in full swing. Mr. Frank Nelson, conductor, is the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Howard Payne University. He is the director of the Yellow Jacket Marching Band, the University Symphonic Band, the Central Texas Community Band, and is the camp coordinator and director for the Howard Payne University Band Leadership Camp each June.

The Department of Music seeks to prepare students for careers in the field of music. Performance is strongly emphasized in the department, and students have a wide variety of opportunities to perform both in ensembles and as soloists. The choral and instrumental fields have extensive ensemble offerings, including Concert Choir, University Singers, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Heritage Singers, and Winds of Triumph, in addition to several small ensembles.

Howard Payne University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (or NASM).
