Where is Brownwood, Texas?
Brownwood is in the heart of Texas Hill Country, directly west of Waco. Conveniently positioned in close proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Austin, and Abilene, you’re only ever a quick road trip away!. Brownwood is one of the larger Hill Country towns with just under 20,000 full-time residents; but each year we greet more and more visitors because much like our flowers, Downtown Brownwood has fully blossomed with exciting new businesses and attractions.
Things to Do In Brownwood During Spring
If you’re looking for a Spring getaway, Brownwood is a wonderful option. There are endless activities in the area that anyone from nature lovers to avid shoppers will enjoy. Add the following activities on your itinerary, and be sure to stop by our visitor center while you’re in town for more ideas!
Grazed & Confused
Looking for a fun spot to eat or take to-go for a picnic? Grazed & Confused is the place for you! This locally owned café has so many healthy and delicious options to choose from. If you’re feeding a crowd, you can pre-order one of their beautifully crafted grazing boards. Or if you’re looking for a quick spot for lunch, stop in and order one of their hearty sandwiches or salads. The atmosphere makes you feel right at home, and it’s the perfect cuisine to take to go.
Fuzzy’s Tacos
If you’re looking for some casual Tex-Mex, you have to stop by Brownwood’s Fuzzy’s Tacos location. It’s a great place to sit down to watch sports or just enjoy a meal with those you’re traveling with. They even have a fun outdoor patio that, when paired with one of their large margaritas, is perfect for Springtime.
Riverside Park
Brownwood’s Riverside Park is the perfect spot for the whole family. Bring your bikes, kites, footballs, frisbees, and take out food for an ideal picnic under the sun. Our park also has an 18-hole disc golf course and a one-mile paved nature trail. For the kids, the park has a large playground and sand volleyball. This area is also known for great bird watching, which you can do from the barbeque pits or pavilions. If you want to stay for a while, you can find RV hookups in the park along with restrooms nearby.
10 Mile Tasting Room
It’s not a trip to the Hill Country without at least one evening at a wine-tasting room! Why not visit one in downtown Brownwood? 10 Mile Productions is a winery that sells its own Texas-made wines, craft food, and other drink options. With the beautiful weather during the Spring, you can enjoy a glass on their patio, along with one of their charcuterie boards!
Shaw’s Marketplace
Shaw’s Marketplace is a large mercantile with about 20 local vendors selling everything from men and womens clothing to home decor, adventure gear, soy candles, and so much more! While you’re shopping, you can stop by The Coffee House at Shaw’s Marketplace to refuel for the afternoon. If you don’t want to open your wallet and are in the mood to just relax, Shaw’s backyard is a fun outdoor area with games and comfortable seating to enjoy.
Urban Roots
Want to freshen your home with a few new plants? Urban Roots is a definite must-see! This plant shop has everything you could want to kick off the Spring. Here, you can shop house plants and home decor, or check out their terrarium bar to build your very own. Keep an eye out for their events, like their Build Your Own Terrarium class, as they collaborate with other local businesses often.
Grits and Grace
Spruce up your Spring wardrobe with fashion from Brownwood’s newest and cutest women’s boutique, Grits and Grace. They offer affordable and chic clothes with styles ranging from western to office wear. Don’t be surprised if you can’t resist their adorable graphic tees, which have fun designs and sayings. While you’re downtown, make sure to stop in!
Over the Rainbow Ice Cream
Is it just us, or is ice cream the best part about the weather warming up? Don’t miss your chance to shop downtown with handcrafted ice cream from Over the Rainbow. In addition to their classics – milk + cookies, snickerdoodle, chocolate, et cetera – this local ice cream shop releases new flavors each week that match the season including lemon blueberry and cherry lime swirl sorbet.
Wildflower Hunting
It wouldn’t truly be Spring without wildflower hunting. In Brownwood, we get a great number of bluebonnets and other Texas wildflowers in our parks and down our highways so make sure to carve out some time to pull over to take pictures with our beautiful state flower. As mentioned above, Riverside Park is a great location to be on the lookout for wildflowers, or you can spot them on your road trip as you drive into Brownwood.
Where to Stay On Your Road Trip
As you can see, there are countless things to do here in Brownwood. It’s best to stay for a full weekend so you can experience as much as possible.
