Romantic summer getaway? Yep. Respite from the hum of the highway on a long Texas road trip? You guessed it – we’ve got it!
Affordable Family Adventures
With our proximity to Lake Brownwood State Park, Lake Brownwood and 317 acres of park and recreation space inside the city limits – family adventuring is boundless in Brownwood.
In town, you can explore 19 parks, enjoy a picnic, climb on 11 playgrounds, hit a hiking or nature trail, cool off in one of our at the Camp Bowie Aquatic Center or let the kiddos run wild on a splash pad. Sports lovers can shoot hoops, play a round of tennis, swim laps, play volleyball and even continue practicing in the Massey Sports Complex which offers baseball, softball and soccer fields. Or, practice your frisbee golf skills on our 18-hole course in pecan-covered Riverside Park.
Kids can spend the afternoons swimming while Dad catches a round of golf at the Hideout Resort. Take your boat for a spin on Lake Brownwood! Lake Brownwood Boat Rentals also rents boats for fun-filled days in the sun.
When you’ve had your fill of the outdoors, beat the heat indoors at the Lehnis Railroad Museum where kids can learn about the wonder of the railroad before taking a ride on a mini train! Be sure to check Brownwood’s Lyric Theatre to see if a show is running!
Where to Stay
In town, the Hampton Inn & Suites offers a clean home-base for your family’s adventures. For the ultimate adventure, pitch a tent (or two) on the shores of the lake in the state park. Not crazy about camping? The park has 20 cabins that can accommodate parties from two to 26 people!
If you’re coming without the kiddos, book the Star of Texas B&B for a romantic few nights off the grid. Not too far, though! You can enjoy the peaceful grounds to your heart’s desire, while still being close enough to town to enjoy a few splurges. Like a wonderful dinner out at the Turtle, wine tasting at Spirit of Texas Winery, and happy hour and tapas at La Sorella! Enjoy evenings nights under the Texas stars with a bottle of white wine and a soaking tub.
Where to Eat
Fuel your fun with the town’s family favorite – the Runaway Train Café. Feast on burgers and old-fashioned milkshakes in a themed train car that the kids will love! Or head over to Studebaker’s Grill for southern favorites. See all our favorite eats here! Don’t forget to treat the whole family to some award-winning gelato from the Gelateria!
Kiddos ages 5 to 10 are invited to channel their artistry in the Summer Mini Art Camps hosted by the Brown County Museum of History. Sessions span from two to three mornings and are offered at various times from June to August. Space is limited and participants are encouraged to register to reserve a place.
The Brown County Rodeo – complete with freestyle motocross, mutton-busting, rodeo clown performances and rodeo events – kicks off on June 6.
Take A Bow
Enjoy a night out at Brownwood’s historic Lyric Theatre. There are two plays running this summer.
